A Whitefish retiree has claimed a $40,000 Powerball prize from the Jan. 15 drawing.

Montana Lottery officials say Alexander Parkhurst claimed his winnings at Lottery Headquarters in Helena on Thursday. He bought his winning ticket at Super 1 Foods in Columbia Falls.

Parkhurst says he and his wife have been playing Powerball since 1992 and are "very pleased" to have won a major prize. They say they don't have any immediate plans for their winnings.
