Margaret Marie Turnquist passed away Oct. 17, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Margaret (Margie) was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Missoula, where she was raised. She graduated from Missoula County High School in 1943 and from the University of Montana in 1947. Margie married Nels Earnest Turnquist in the summer of 1947.

Nels and Margie always thought of Montana as their home. As they ventured through life, Nels’s employment as a banker led them through numerous towns. They resided in Ogden, Utah (1950 - 1951), Helena (1951 - 1968), Minneapolis (1968 - 1972), and Sioux Falls, S.D. (1972 - 1989).

In 1989, Nels and Margie retired to Tucson, Ariz. for the winters but lived in Whitefish during the summer season.

They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997.

Margaret was a very kind and generous person. She was well liked and had many friends. She devoted herself to many causes but especially to her church. Her family and friends loved her dearly and will miss her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Nels; her parents, L. Joseph and Minnie A. Garrison; her sister, Melva Brance; her sister-in-law, Ruth O’Connell; and her brothers-in-law, Lynn Brance, Jim O’Connell, Glenn Snurr, and Carl Turnquist.\

Margaret is survived by her son, Lynn Turnquist (Midvale, Utah); her sister, Jane Snurr (Waynesboro, Penn.); her sister-in-law, Helen Turnquist (Bozeman); her nieces, Kay Corbin (Central Point, Ore.), Karen Hall (Bozeman), Mary Helen Mitchell (Austin, Texas), Jane Snurr (Mechanicsburg, Penn.), and Molly Snurr, (Culpepper, Va.); and her nephews, Jim O’Connell (Troy, N.Y.), Grayson Snurr (Westminster, Md.), Joe Snurr (Conway, S.C.) and John Turnquist (Houston).

A memorial service is tentatively planned for Margaret this coming summer in Whitefish. Gifts in the memory of Margaret may be sent to the charity of choice.
