Bowerman, Quimby take titles at Buzz Lucey
Whitefish wrestling returned from the Buzz Lucey Invitational in Eureka on Saturday with a pair of individual champions.
Skyler Bowerman took first place at 152 pounds with a 5-2 decision over Glacier’s Donovan Macura.
Steven Quimby took the title at 285 pounds after pinning Glacier’s Andrew Klamecki at 1:30.
Both wrestlers won three matches to get into the championships.
Travis Catina had a solid tournament, placing second at 205 pounds.
Matt Carr placed fourth at 182 pounds, while freshman Parker McWhirter placed fourth at 103 pounds.
Whitefish finished in fifth place overall with 106 points.
Whitefish coach Ryan Boyle said his team has shown potential individually, but he wants more team focus going forward.
“Christmas break is a good time to bring the team together,” he said. “We need to get focused on the right path so we can compete consistently.”
Whitefish is back in action Jan. 2 at the Western A Duals.
