Whitefish wrestling scored its first dual win of the season last week with a gutsy performance against Libby.

The Dogs took five of nine matches to get the 36-28 victory at home.

Freshman 103-pounder Parker McWhirter scored a pin over Mason Sams at 3:41 to start the dual.

In one of the more exciting matches of the night, James Buckley went three rounds with Lane Young to score a 13-12 decision at 120 pounds.

Buckley scored five points in the first round to take an early advantage. The pair swapped 2-point reversals three times with the match knotted at 11-11. With 13 seconds left, Buckley scored a takedown for the win.

Garrett Rice won another hard-fought match at 132 pounds with a 7-5 decision over Reed Christiansen. Rice took an early 5-2 advantage with a near fall. After no points in the second round, Rice scored an escape to get the decision.

At 152 pounds, senior Matt Sampson scored a nice pin at 1:34 over Alex Yeadon.

Skyler Bowerman sealed the team win in an exciting match at 170 pounds. Trailing after the first round, Bowerman was able to pin Michael Miller at 3:04.

The win over Libby was the second half of a double dual with Polson where it was pin or be pinned.

The Pirates outlasted Whitefish in that conference dual 42-30.

Steven Quimby scored a pin at 285 pounds over Isaiah Williams at 5:24.

At 132 pounds, Rice pinned Jaben Wenzel.

152-pounder Sampson scored a quick pin over Stephen Ostberg in 53 seconds.

Judah Prestegaard pinned Noah Humphrey at 1:18 to score points at 160 pounds.
