Dogs go 2-0 at Tip-Off Tourney
Defensive intensity opened up the offense as Whitefish’s boys basketball team went 2-0 at the annual Tip-Off Tournament last weekend in Missoula.
Playing under the bright lights at the Adams Center on the University of Montana campus, the Dogs scored wins over Stevensville and Anaconda.
AJ Wetsch led the way with 25 points in the win over Anaconda on Saturday.
After a tight first half, Wetsch exploded in the third period scoring nine consecutive points to push Whitefish to a double-digit lead.
The Dogs amped up the defensive pressure in the third and scored on multiple fastbreak chances to post 25 points in the quarter.
Anaconda made a run in the fourth, but the Dogs locked down on defense to get the 64-55 victory.
Derek Kastella and Brian FauntLeRoy each tallied 9 points in the effort.
On Friday, Whitefish used balanced scoring in a 56-47 win over Stevensville.
The Dogs opened with a 27-17 advantage in the first half, then posted 20 points in the fourth to seal the win.
Jack Streibich dropped 13 points to lead the team. Kastella put in 12 and Wetsch added 11.
Whitefish is 2-1 overall as it gets ready to host Libby in a conference game Friday at home.
