The Whitefish swim team took to the pool for its inaugural meet Saturday at the Kalispell Invitational and emerged with some promising results.

Whitefish coach Mike Nelson said the team featured a lot of first-time competitors in the school’s first swim meet ever.

“They showed they are ready to swim and I expect them to continue to improve,” Nelson said.

The Lady Dogs placed ninth in the 200 relay with a 2:14.65. Swimming the event were Alice Wilde, Kaylee Hickman, Michaela McDowell and Sonja Ring.

Ring placed 10th individually in the 200 freestyle and took 16th in the 100 breast stroke.

“Sonja is a strong contender in the 200 freestyle,” Nelson commented.

Kaylee Hickman clocked a 3:27.69 in the 200 IM for 15th place, and a 1:23.74 in the 100 freestyle for 27th place.

“She had a great 100 freestyle time,” Nelson said.

The girls finished with 13 points and in ninth place.

The boys were led by Matthew Perez who placed fifth in the 100 fly with a 1:17.49, and eighth in the 500 freestyle with a 6:20.20.

Jacob Anderson took eighth in the 100 breast stroke with a 1:22.64 and ninth in the 50 free with a 28.70.
