The NC Foundation has donated $3,000 to support the Whitefish School District’s Student Assistance Program.

SAP is an intervention program for K-12 students, focused on providing support groups where students can talk about various issues in a safe environment. This year SAP has about 50 students from ages 8 to 18 participating.

The grant will provide stipends to compensate school staff who facilitate the program.

“I am convinced that this peer-to-peer program leads to better communication and support between and among our students,” said superintendent Kate Orozco. “The SAP program creates a kinder, more inclusive learning environment, and I see the program making a difference in our school culture already. We are truly grateful to the NC Foundation and their generous support.”

NC Foundation President Terry Chute said SAP is the kind of program that supports their mission.

“It provides young people with life skills they can use now and in the future to address issues as they arise,” he said.
