WTC auditions for 'Letters to Sala' on Dec. 15

| December 2, 2014 9:00 PM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for the Black Curtain Theatre production of “Letters To Sala” on Dec.15 at the O’Shaughnessy Center.

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Arrive early to the Green Room to fill out an audition application and review the script.

Based on a true account, “Letters to Sala” is a remarkable story of a young girl’s survival during wartime Germany. Sala Garncarz spent five years in a Nazi labor camp that she chronicled in over 350 letters that she managed to keep safe.

The emotional journey of the play begins for both Sala and her daughter Ann when the letters resurface. As Sala is thrown into the past, Ann is discovering her mother’s historical impact on Holocaust documentation while Ann’s daughters, Caroline and Elisabeth, realize for the first time the weight of their Jewish heritage.

Three generations of Kirschner women must work together to sift through the past and come to terms with the true gravity of Sala’s letters.

The cast will be composed of five to seven women and five to seven men, ages 14 to 75 and older. Cast members may play multiple roles that fall in various age ranges. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided.

As a Black Curtain show, actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. Total time commitment for this production is approximately three weeks of rehearsal. Rehearsals will be held two to three times a week as determined by the director and the chosen cast members. There are two performances over one weekend on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
