Boys take first at Frenchtown meet

The Whitefish boys track team cruised to a first-place finish Thursday at the Frenchtown Invitational.

A slew of individual winners led the effort. Keaton Grove won at 110 hurdles with a 15.40, Luke May took first in javelin with a toss off 178-7, Jed Nagler cleared 5-10 to win high jump, Sean Foley flew 20-4 to win long jump, and EJ Havens cleared 13-0 to win pole vault.

Whitefish also won the 400 relay (44.30) with Foley, Nagler, Grove and Luke Cardon.

The Bulldogs finished with 117 points. Missoula Sentinel was second with 85.

The Lady Dogs placed fourth as a team with 60 points. Belgrade won the invite with 171, and Columbia Falls took second with 114.

Bekah Weaver landed in first place in javelin with a toss of 111-7. Kate Doorn cleared 5-2 to win the high jump.

Briel Birgensmith cleared 8-6 to place second in pole vault.

Both the boys and girls opened their season at the Flathead A Invitational on Tuesday, April 15.

Senior Marlow Schulz set the pace in the 400 with a top time of 58.70. She also anchored the Lady Dogs 400-relay team to a second-place finish.

While her 400 time was far ahead to the competition, Schulz is aiming to dip below the 56 seconds mark in the 400.

Also placing in the 400, Sarah Latcham posted a 1:04.69 to take third at the competitive meet.

Doorn cleared 4-9 to take second in high jump and Birgensmith cleared 8-0 for third in pole vault.

On the boys side, Grove placed second in the 300-hurdles and third in the 110-hurdles.

Gage Smith won shot put with a toss of 46-2, and took third in discus with a 137-5.

May easily won javelin with a 170-9.

Nagler cleared 5-11 to take second in high jump.

Seniors Havens and Foley both had great days in the field.

Both cleared 12-6 for second in pole vault.

In long jump, Foley soared 21-1 for second place, and in triple jump Havens went 41-1.75 for third place.
