Disgruntled teachers should leave district

I read the recent article (Pilot, April 2) about the teachers’ union survey.

To all the teachers who personally feel “the climate sucks” or “I’ve never seen morale so low” or “teachers cowering in their classrooms” or “teachers afraid to speak up” or “teachers in tears” or “it’s a sinking ship…and we’re going down,” I suggest you take the best possible route for your future and resign and move on to a new school. You don’t deserve such treatment and I’m sure most of you will find a better position for yourselves at a new school.

For those of you who are “just going through the motions” or “putting on a happy face for our students,” please leave. Take your tenure and move on because that’s not who the Whitefish High parents want teaching their children.

Finally, the only survey I’d like to see come out of the high school is one in which the students rate their teachers. I will direct this comment to the high school student council — why not have the members of the graduating class each complete a “report card” on the teachers.

If you need help on starting this project, please contact me, Richard Atkinson, 862-7591, and I will help you. I designed and oversaw such an effort in which National Security Agency federal workers rated their managers. It went smoothly, and in the end, the managers appreciated the feedback.
