Flathead Forest reschedules meeting, field trip

The Flathead National Forest has rescheduled two public meeting that were cancelled to due to the partial government shutdown. One is an open house that is part of the Forest Plan Revision effort and the other is a field trip for a planned Condon Mountain Fire salvage project.

The forest is hosting an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Supervisor’s Office at 650 Wolfpack Way in Kalispell from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will provide an opportunity for the public to meet with Forest Service specialists working on an assessment of the Flathead National Forest, the first phase of forest plan revision. This will be the same information shared on recent field trips. The open house provides an opportunity to engage for those who could not attend the trips. In addition, Flathead National Forest employees are conducting an informational field trip in connection with the proposed Condon Mountain Fire Salvage Project. The field trip is Tuesday, Nov. 5, beginning at 1 p.m. and should last about two hours. Meet at the Condon Work Station at 1 p.m. The field trip will then proceed to the fire area. This fire burned approximately 5,500 acres in the summer of 2012. The Forest Service is proposing some salvage harvest within a portion of the fire area. Resource specialists will be available to answer questions about the project’s objectives and possible outcomes.
