The Whitefish boys cross country team posted their first win of the season last weekend at the Thompson Falls Invitational.

Caleb Knox led the way with a 16:50. Keaton Grove, EJ Havens and Thomas Henson were all within 15 seconds of each other.

“They packed together well,” Whitefish coach Sara Brist said.

Keaton Nicholson and Ethan Lannaghan finished at 17:48 and 17:49, respectively.

“The Nos. 5 and 6 runners are improving quite a bit, especially over their times from last year,”Brist said. “It was exciting for our boys to win and to perform well.”

The Lady Bulldogs finished in second place, despite missing their top runner.

Peyton Twete posted a 20:58 to lead the team. Katie Smith (21:01) finished in eighth overall and Sloan Ellis (21:16) placed 10th.

“The other girls stepped up and ran well as a team,” Brist said. “The girls are starting to gain some confidence and packing together well as a team.”

At the Mountain West Classic in Missoula Sept. 28 the boys team finished 23rd and the girls 39th among more than 90 teams.

Whitefish hosts their home meet Oct. 12 beginning at 11 a.m.
