Federal shutdown forces Le Grizz race move to N. Fork

A record 115 runners from North America and Australia are registered to race in the 32nd annual Le Grizz 50 Mile Ultramarathon on Saturday, Oct. 12. The event is usually held along the east shore of Hungry Horse Reservoir, but the Forest Service permit was canceled because of the government shutdown.

This year, the Le Grizz will be held up the North Fork, starting and finishing in Polebridge. The event is sanctioned by USA Track & Field as its Montana 50-mile Championship, and is sponsored by the Cheetah Herders Athletic Club.

Athletes from the Special Olympics, members of the North Valley Search & Rescue, and local volunteers will assist runners with traffic control, course patrol and radio communications. Glacier Park is closed, so there’s no camping and the Camas Road is closed.
