Mundel breaks school cross-country record

Wildkat runner Samantha Mundel broke her own school record in cross country last week.

Mundel clocked 18:57.02 and took 34th at the Mountain West Classic in Missoula on Sept. 28.

“Samantha is gaining both fitness and confidence by the week, which is fun to watch,” coach Richard Menicke said. “Her performance really raises the bar for her teammates on a daily basis.”

The race attracts some of the best runners across western Montana, Idaho and eastern Washington state. A total of 421 boys and 375 girls ran in the varsity race.

Top runner for the boys was James Ratzlaff, who finished in 17:38 to place 200th. As a team, the boys took 45th and the girls were 38th. The Columbia Falls teams next compete in Thompson Falls on Thursday.
