The first of 47 new wayfinding signs were installed this week at strategic locations around Whitefish.

The brown and green navigation signs are designed to help visitors find area attractions such as City Beach, the Whitefish Trail and O'Shaughnessy Center. Whitefish Mountain Resort is the only commercial destination part of the wayfinding sign package.

City Manager Chuck Stearns says most of the signs should be up within the next few weeks.

The city used about $150,000 in tax-increment finance funds to have the signs manufactured and installed. The Heart of Whitefish downtown group funded initial consulting fees and will fund rock facing and landscaping for two gateway signs.

Stearns says the gateway sign along U.S. 93 West won’t be installed this year due to the current road reconstruction project.
