Columbia Falls freshman Emily Getts had a great run at the Bitterroot Invitational tennis tournament April 27. Getts made it to the championship round in the singles 1-2 bracket, downing Hamilton’s Erica Huppert 7-6 (2), 6-2 in the semifinal. She then lost to Corvallis’ Laramie McHugh 6-1, 6-2.

In the singles 3-4 bracket, McKenna Emmerich won the championship, but the score was not available.

“An awesome day for the tennis Kats when Emily Getts made it to the championship game of the 1 and 2 seeds, and KcKenna Emmerich won the consolation championship for the 3 and 4s,” Wildkat coach Jerry Smalley said. “Every week, we’re getting better.”

On the boys side, six of the varsity players, including the top doubles team of Mason Gedlaman and Andrew West, did not play because of a band competition. Coach Gary Yee said most of the team was represented by junior varsity athletes.

“It was a good experience for the kids,” he said.

The teams were scheduled to play a make-up match against Whitefish on Tuesday. The boys were at home and the girls on the road. On Saturday, the teams will travel to Polson for a meet against the Pirates and Stevensville Yellowjackets.
