History club
The Columbia Falls Historical Society will meet at the Montanan Veterans Home Chapel on Tuesday March 19, at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in local history is welcome.
Endowment ball Friday
The Columbia Falls High School Endowment Ball will take place in the high school gym on Friday, March 15, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. with desserts and dancing to music by the Kayla Adams Band, of Columbia Falls. St. Richard’s Catholic Church will not offer free dinners this month at its community kitchen because of holy week.
Decor talk
The Columbia Falls Women’s Connection, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries, will present a talk by Lela Toavs, a representative of Celebrating Home, a home decor company, at the Teakettle Community Room on Nucleus Ave. in Columbia Falls on Wednesday, March 20, at 11:30 a.m. Connie Barker of Kalispell will share an inspirational life story. Whole living
Jill Purdy will continue her whole living workshops at the Seventh–day Adventist Church, 269 Second Ave. EN, in Columbia Falls on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 3 to 6 p.m. Topics this month include “Juicing, smoothies and green drinks” on March 19. Topics for April will include “Fun with children in the kitchen” and “The eight laws of good health.”
Museum talk
Neil Van Sickle will present a talk on Indians and the North American fur trade at the Museum at Central School, 124 Second Avenue East in Kalispell, on Sunday, March 17, at 2:30 p.m. Van Sickle began researching the North American fur trade 17 years ago and ended up with a 500-page book. He and Evelyn Rodewald of Whitefish recently published “The Indian Way: Indians and the North American Fur Trade” inspired by the realization that other works on the fur trade were written from a solely European viewpoint. Book sale
The North Valley Senior Center, 205 Nucleus Avenue, Columbia Falls, will hold its annual book and puzzle sale on Friday and Saturday, March 22-23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 892-4087.
Auction fundraiser
The Boys and Girls Club of Glacier Country will hold its 10th annual auction and dinner at the Shady Lane Roller Rink, 155 Shady Lane, in Evergreen, on Saturday, March 16, at 5 p.m. The event will be catered by the Linda Vista restaurant. The club has been operating after-school programs in the Flathead since 1999 with more than 3,000 members and averaging 500 kids a week. Tickets are $40 individual, $75 couples and $400 for tables of eight. All money stays in the Flathead. For more information, call Alan Sempf at 261-4232.
Pirates on stage
The Glacier Symphony and Chorale will present the popular Gilbert and Sullivan comic operetta “The Pirates of Penzance” at the Whitefish Middle School auditorium on Saturday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 17, at 3 p.m. Tickets come in a range of prices and seating tiers and can be purchased online at www.gscmusic.org or by calling 257-3241. No free student tickets are available.
Coffee & music
The guitar, fiddle and mandolin trio Rachel Penner, Michael Atherton and Clara Wieck will perform bluegrass, folk and Irish music at Montana Coffee Traders in Columbia Falls on Friday, March 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. There is no cover charge.
FarmHands night
A “Fork it Over” community night fundraiser to benefit the FarmHands map project will take place at the Three Forks Grill, 729 Nucleus Avenue, in Columbia Falls, on Monday, April 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. FarmHands is a small group of farmers and consumers committed to increasing public appreciation of farming in the Flathead Valley. Book sale
The Kalispell branch of the American Association of University Women has set up donation barrels for good quality used books at Smith’s Foods in Columbia Falls for their annual book sale at the Kalispell Center Mall on April 12, 13 and 14. Creston auction
The 47th annual Creston Auction & Country Fair and the accompanying Auto, Marine, RV & Equipment Sale will be held in Creston on April 6-7. The auction is a fundraiser for the all-volunteer Creston Fire Department and is the largest spring event in Montana. Merchandise will be accepted for consignment on Friday, April 5, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Grounds open at 8 a.m. on Saturday, and entrance is free. Bidding will start on Sunday at noon for cars, trucks, boats, recreational vehicles, tractors, farm equipment, trailers and other large items.
