Donald Stratton

Donald Atwood Stratton, 89, of The Dalles, Ore., died March 4, 2013.

He was born to James and Minnie Geery Stratton on April 16, 1923, in Chinook. In 1936, Don and the family moved to Martin City. In 1942, Don joined the Army and spent much of his time in England, attached to the 8th Air Force.

He married Clara Rodgers in 1947, in Hungry Horse. Clara passed away in 1986, and Don married Rita Walston in 1987.

Don worked on building the Hungry Horse Dam and at Anaconda Aluminum Company smelter in Columbia Falls. In 1958, the family moved to The Dalles, where Don worked at the Harvey Aluminum Co. smelter for 26 years as a maintenance supervisor. It was work he took great pride in.

He is survived by his wife Rita Stratton; sons Frank Stratton and wife Ruthie, and Rob Stratton and wife Debbie; daughters Bonnie Hill and husband Sonny, and Penny Lepinski; stepchildren Ed Walston, Mike Walston, Cindy and Cliff Baker and Debbie Stratton; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Graveside service took place March 8, 2013, at Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Celilo Cancer Center and Hearts of Hospice.
