Jackson “Jack” Allen Gregg

Jackson “Jack” Allen Gregg passed away peacefully in his home in Billings on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the age of 89.

Jack was born April 6, 1924 in Whitefish to Earl and Lillie Gregg.

He graduated from Whitefish High School in 1943.

He served in the European Theatre with the 80th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart while serving as a messenger on the front lines in France and Belgium.

Jack married Kathleen Ellis on Oct. 11, 1953 in Whitefish. He retired from work as a telegrapher/clerk for the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railway in 1983.

Jack was an avid golfer, who held the 9-hole record at Whitefish Lake Golf Course for many years. He was a devoted fan of the Whitefish Bulldogs and loved to hold babies, especially his grand and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen; two sisters, Bonnie Palmquist (Jim) of Annandale, Minn., Marcie Conn (Gordon) of Marysville, Wash.; sister-in-law, Margaret Gregg (Robert) of Spokane, Wash.; four children, Jackson “Jack” Gregg (Leona) of Helena, Mont., Thomas Gregg (Kim) of Springfield, Va., Julie Draeger (Dave) of Billings, and Holli Miller (Rod) of Billings; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His latest great-granddaughter was born in Helena the same day he died.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Robert; sister, Jeananne McKinley; and sister-in-law, Gloria.

A celebration of life was held June 21 at Peace Lutheran Church in Billings. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Whitefish Cemetery.
