Twins win some and lose some through the week

The Glacier Twins’ bats were held quiet Sunday as the Libby Loggers left Memorial Field with a pair of conference wins.

Libby rallied to take the first American Legion baseball game 6-2 despite the Twins holding a 2-0 advantage through five innings. Libby tacked on four runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. Peter Seymour led Glacier with two hits and an RBI.

The Loggers shut out the Twins in the second game 3-0. The Twins could only muster three hits in the loss.

On July 2, the Twins picked up a 5-2 conference win over the Kalispell Lakers A after the game was called in the fourth inning. Both Lakers coaches were ejected in the fourth frame for arguing a call, which led to the forfeit.

Shane Marcial, Jake Slaybaugh and Colton Gove each had RBIs for the Twins. Twins pitcher Brandon Maassen struck out five in four innings.

The Twins swept a doubleheader July 1 against Kootenai Valley at Eureka. The Twins edged the Rangers 9-8 in the first game after a sixth-inning rally. Hugh Ramlow doubled and Jason Newbury scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk four batters later.

Bret Almos held the Rangers to just one run in game two of the doubleheader. He allowed five hits in six innings and tallied five strikeouts.

The Twins will host the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament on July 11-14 at Memorial Field in Whitefish.
