Bigfork Community Players kick off 30th year with 'Airport 1904'
The Bigfork Community Players’ 30th year will kick off with “Airport 1904,” a two-act musical melodrama, at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
The premise of the show is a ridiculous concept where the world’s first flying school is opened by Widow Knight, played by Christel deWaard and her daughter, Lovey, played by Tonja King, just one month after the Wright Brothers take their first flight in December 1903.
But, all does not go well. Two villains harass the Knights and plan to take over the school and Lovey. Fortunately, the story’s hero, Sterling Strongwrench steps in just in the nick of time.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that a mysterious woman is following Sterling.
Complications tailspin before all is resolved in this hiss-the-villain, cheer-the-hero and heroine melodrama. Of course, music and songs make everything turn out well.
Long-time BCP member Sue Ostergard will be performing her first directing role for the Bigfork Community Players.
Music Director, and on stage pianist, Frank J. Kuntz is a veteran musician and performer. Kuntz was co-producer of the movie “Dakota”, starring Lou Diamond Phillips.
The cast is made up of returning BCP talent such as Don McAdam and Israel Bissell as well as newcomer Joshua Ruebenson as side splitting funny flight instructor Rip Levenworth.
Producers Mary Whitney and Mel Peterson are theater veterans who help guide the production to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Anna Dwyer designed the set. Dwyer has been a member of the Bigfork players since their inception in 1983. She is also an accomplished painter and sculptor, with showings at The Hockaday Museum, Bigfork Museum of Art and History, and other venues.
Performances will be at the BPCA, Friday and Saturday shows will be at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15-17 and 22-24.
Tickets are available at The Kalispell Grand Hotel, Bigfork Drug, and at the door on performance days. Tickets are $16 for general admission, $6 for children under 12, and $11 for BCP members and seniors.

Bigfork Community Players spring production is “West,” the sequel to last spring’s “Prairie Heart,” directed by Karen Kolar. Performances are set for April 20-22 and 27-29. Directors are still needed for future plays; experienced directors can apply at big forkcommunityplayers@gmail.com.
