Smalley lost his line keeper

This week I’m asking for help.

Not unlike many spin fishermen, I get frustrated when line unravels off the spool, especially when the hook has been clipped to the rod or there’s no terminal rig, just the end of bare line to be secured.

Even when the hook is clipped to the hook keeper or guide foot — never secure our hook to the inside of the guide itself — anti-reverse is activated, and the drag is set tight, line can loosen.

And how do you secure the end of the line when the reel isn’t on the rod? Two- and three-piece rods are more easily transported without reels.

Years ago, I had about a dozen little plastic clips — they look like head bands — that just clipped over the spool and kept line from unraveling. They were perfect for ice fishing where you might have a half dozen loaded rods in one bucket.

Unfortunately I only have one left. It is 1 1/2 inches across, which is perfect for ultralight spinning reels. I was unable to find any locally.. 

I thought I’d hit the Mother Lode with “Line Keeper” on Google when I found “The Line Keeper was our first product. It was developed to replace the outdated rubber band…”

Duh, it was an elastic band.

I found elastic bands, improved elastic bands, stainless steel springs, spring-loaded hinges, rubber O-rings, and soccer tips.

What I didn’t find is what I was looking for. If you know where I can find some inch-and-a-half Line Keepers, let me know. Maybe we’ll go worm dunkin’ sometime.
