Summer workers tell the Park's inside story

To get the inside story about Glacier National Park, Canadian authors Ray Djuff and Chris Morrison turned to the summer employees for their new book, “Glacier from the Inside Out.”

“Nobody knows the ins and outs of Glacier like the summer employees who have worked for the park concessioners peeling potatoes, cleaning rooms, driving tour buses, wrangling horses or handling baggage and then, with time off, exploring the backcountry,” they say in a press release.

Djuff and Morrison are the authors of the popular book “Glacier’s Historic Hotels & Chalets: View with a Room.” Djuff is the author of “High on a Windy Hill: The Story of the Prince of Wales Hotel.”

For their new book. Djuff and Morrison collected stories originally written for the Glacier Park Foundation’s “Inside Trail” newsletter which cover 100 years. Some of the writers left the Park after just one season, but many returned to work for successive summers.

“Glacier from the Inside Out” is a fundraising project for the Glacier Park Foundation, a nonprofit that seeks to resurrect staff musical and entertainment productions at Park hotels, among other projects. For more information, visit online at www.glacierparkfoundation.org.
