Hockaday acquires 15 historic Glacier National Park murals

The Hockaday Museum of Art acquired 15 Glacier National Park murals originally created to decorate the GNP lodges. When the lodges were remodeled, the murals were discarded and saved by Leona and Robert Brown of West Glacier. The murals were passed down to their granddaughter Leanne and her husband Alan Goldhahn. Leanne donated the murals to the Hockaday in memory of her grandparents.

The debut of the first fully restored mural will be held in conjunction with the opening reception of the “Edith Freeman: Montana Seasons” and “Catch the Vision: From Dreams to Discovery” emerging artists exhibitions. The reception is open to the public and will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, from 5-7 p.m.

The initial restoration was made possible with financial help from donors, Leanne and Alan Goldhahn, and Joe Abbrescia Jr. who donated the conservation labor.
