Big Mountain traditions

| February 6, 2013 6:49 AM

Here on Big Mountain, now known by some as Whitefish Mountain, we like to keep things traditional.

For many years, Big Mountain has been like a second home for me in the winters. Spending all of my weekend on the slopes really made me used to certain things the mountain has to offer.

From the snow ghosts to the old statue of Jesus, it seems the mountain wouldn’t be complete without them. I can understand that if you don’t believe in religion, you may think it’s silly. Even I am not sure what my stand on religion is, but religion doesn’t have anything to do with why I want the statue to stay.

I simply would like to see the statue stay because it has been there since the first time I stepped foot on the mountain, and I would like to see it survive these strange times. It will always be Big Mountain to me, and the statue just seems to belong on the “big.”
