Dogs dominate at Libby track meet

Whitefish was a dominate force Saturday as both the boys and girls track teams won overall titles at the Libby Invitational.

The Lady Bulldogs racked up 10 first-place finishes, while the boys won 11 events.

Both teams were nearly unstoppable in running events.

Freshman Allie Schulz picked up a pair of wins for the Lady Bulldogs in the 100 and 200. Sarah Latcham won the 400, junior Marlow Schulz changed gears and cruised to wins in the 800 and 1,600, Phoebe Guercio and Ella Kobelt finshed No.1 and No. 2 in the 300 hurdles, and both relay team won.

In the field, Brielle Birgensmith won pole vault and Phoebe Guercio took the win at long jump.

The boys team was equally impressive.

Sean Foley cruised to a win in the 100, Logan Harwood took the 200 with a state qualifying time of 23.14, then won the 400 with a season-best 50.81.

Jace Kalbfleisch and Fischer Gangemi finished No. 1 and No. 2 in both the 1,600 and 3,200, Keaton Grove won both hurdle events, and the 1,600 relay team won.

In the field, Gage Smith won shot put, Koler Kanistanaux won discus, and Luke May and Jake May finshed No. 1 and No. 2 in javelin.

Whitefish hosts the ARM meet this Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
