Basketball coaching dilemma

I would like to make three important points regarding the girls basketball coach not being rehired:

1. The school system has a procedure in place that starts with the Athletic Director critiquing each and every coach and recommending whether to rehire or not. Mrs. Fuller has been a great coach in the recent past and is regarded as one of the finest coaches in the state. To say she is not capable of judging coaches is irresponsible.

2. The girls on the team reported that they cut practices and did not attend open gym when asked. Mr. Delgado - as a successful basketball coach, how many times did your basketball players cut your practices and/or not follow through on your “suggestion” that they attend open gym? I’m sure the answer is close to zero!

3. A coach’s job is to make every player better than she thinks she can be. Any coach who can fulfill that goal is rarely rated “nice” by his or her players. Respected, yes, but nice, no.

Mrs. Fuller’s decision should be accepted and let’s allow the school to move on.
