Strong performances at Kalispell, Missoula

The weather was lousy, but the performances improved. The Wildcats had some good showings at the Flathead Time Trials in a non-scoring meet on April 9 and the Missoula Invitation April 13.

The girls were led by Carla Nicosia in the triple jump with a leap of 33-10. Charlene Mundel took third in the 400 meters at 1:07.12, and Samantha Mundel continues to run well in the long distance events, with a third in the 1,600 meters at 5:55.32 and second in the 3,200 at 12:45.01. Ally Gimbel was sixth in the 400 at 1:08.80,

On the boys side, the Cats were led by Josiah Osborne, who took second in the 100 and 200 meters with times of 11.66 and 24.19 respectively. He was also fourth in the long jump with a leap of 19-4. Colin King took fourth in the 100 with a sprint of 11.83. Luke Kazlauskas was sixth in the 400 at 54.67.

At the Missoula Invitational, Samantha Mundel was third in the 3,200 at 12:19.70. The girls also took third in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:27.23. They came in 10th as a team.

On the boys side, Osborne was third in the 100 at 11.54. The boys took fifth in the 400 relay at 45.76 and sixth in the 1,600 relay at 3:38.09. Nakia Alexander also had his best jump of the season with a leap of 21-1 1/2, good enough for fourth in the long jump. The boys took 12th as a team.

Coach Jamie Heinz noted that the team is young, but progressing.

“I’m really happy with where we’re at,” he said. “We’re finding athletes that will be competitive.”

The team had a dual meet with Libby at home Tuesday after presstime and will travel to Libby Saturday.
