Kathy Cozad gives of her time and talent by volunteering with many Whitefish organizations.

She volunteers at the North Valley Music School, which she describes as an incredible group providing great service. At` the Whitefish Community Library she considers her service on the Board of the Friends of the Library as being a fabulous experience. Kathy also holds a part-time management position at the Whitefish Community Center, and was “The Cookie Lady” at North Valley Hospital.

“I can’t imagine a life that doesn’t include volunteering,” she said.

She explains that it is a great way to meet new friends and enjoy the camaraderie of working with them while experiencing the good feeling you get from knowing you are doing something worthwhile for your community.

Born and raised in The Dalles, Ore., Kathy attended elementary schools there, and completed her education at Bassist, and Oregon State College. She is a tennis player and it was through an adaptation of the old approach “tennis anyone?” that she met Karl. A doubles tournament was coming up, and she needed a partner. She knew from observation that Karl was a good player and upon being assured by friends that he was a nice guy, she asked him to partner with her.

History reveals the partnership was a great success. They got married, and together they have won many tennis events, including the gold medal in mixed doubles for their age group at the huge and prestigious Huntsman Senior Games at St. George, Utah, where they intend to compete again this year.

In 2008 when Karl accepted the position of Director of Parks and Recreation, neither of them was acquainted with Whitefish. Kathy relates that before coming to Whitefish they frequently discussed where they wanted to retire, but shortly after visiting here there were no more discussions. As far as they were concerned, they had found their home. She states that at first it was the beautiful area, but that was soon trumped by the friendly people.

They each were previously married and their combined family consists of Kelsy, Kyle, Eric and Kris plus their two dogs, Boomer and Rio.

Kathy, your volunteering provides comfort and enjoyment to all ages, and is something that will be treasured by them throughout their lives. Because of you our community is a better place, and we thank you.
