Bigfork tennis beats Ronan

The Bigfork High School girls tennis team is off to a good start.

The Valkyries took care of business on Monday by winning at Ronan 5-1.

The doubles team of Shelby Scoggins and Alannis Stallknecht looked like a seasoned machine, BHS boys coach Paul Sullivan said.

The Vikings, however, were on the short end of a 2-4 decision and suffered due to Seth Roessmann and Isaac Martel being away on Spring Break.

“This was a tough match for Bigfork,” Sullivan said. “But all in all we had a strong showing from key players.” In particular, Guvanch Agujumayer and Adam Jordt battled back from first set losses to win. “Being down two players was a bit of a disadvantage, but everyone chipped in and did a great job,” Sullivan said.

In girls singles action, Brooke Bonner and Mariah Bradstreet recorded wins for the Valkyries. Bonner defeated Amber Quequesah, 6-2, 6-4, while Bradstreet topped Hannah Bird Rattler, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.

In girls doubles play, Scoggins and Stallknecht defeated Quequesah and Bird Rattler, 6-1, 6-1.

Alex Hider and Kayle Casalegno downed Samantha Ashley and Shannon Saint, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, while Alauna Weilacher and Lana Berg were victorious over Ashley and Cassie Hawkins, 6-2, 6-3.

In boys singles action, Agujumayer defeated Ronny Cullis, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0, and Adam Jordt topped Joey Dresen, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Also in singles play, Logan Lamm fell to Fisher Shima, 4-6, 6-7, while Gunnar Boose lost to Tallan Fortin, 4-6, 4-6.

In boys doubles, Lamm and Agujumayer lost to Daniel Aylerworth and Tyler Anderson, 2-6, 0-6, while Mac Payne and Isaac Reichner fell to Colton Roullier and Ethan Blevins, 0-6, 2-6.

Sullivan noted that some of these matches were technically exhibitions because one player can’t compete in both singles and doubles action.

Bigfork’s boys and girls teams competed on Tuesday against Flathead and Glacier high schools in Kalispell. Results were not available by deadline.

The Vikings will host Loyola at noon on Saturday.
