Wildkats on a run, go 3-0 for the week in soccer

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team had a stellar week, going 3-0. On Sept. 11, the Wildkats edged Stillwater Christian 1-0 at home. On Sept. 14, they walloped Polson 10-0 away for their first conference victory, and the next day they handled Libby 9-0 at home.

Over the three games, Alexi Corbett had six goals, including a hat trick against the Lady Loggers.

Against the Lady Pirates and the Lady Loggers, the Wildkats were without starters Kira Kamrud in goal and Danielle Delventhal on offense. Both girls were making visits to prospective colleges.

It didn’t matter. The Kats scored early and often on both the Polson and Libby. The Kats defense also did well — Polson had just one shot on goal, while Libby had seven. Keeper Andrea Getts had some nice saves against the Lady Loggers to preserve the shutout.

The Kats out shot Stillwater 17-0 but didn’t finish well, noted coach Greg Trenerry. They made some adjustments and the goal shots started dropping.

“They’re coming together as a team,” Trenerry said.

The Kats face a much stronger foe in Whitefish this week. They play Bigfork on Tuesday after presstime then face the Lady Bulldogs on Thursday in Whitefish. Game time is 3:30 p.m.

The Kats also have another match-up against Stillwater in Kalispell on Saturday. That game starts at 2:30 p.m. The fields are on FFA Drive, off Willow Glen Drive in Kalispell.
