WHS golfers in top form
Whitefish’s Art Doorn and Erin Tabish finished at the top of the leaderboard and the Bulldog boys claimed a team title on Friday at the Libby Invitational golf tournament at Cabinet View Golf Club.
Doorn shot a 73 for a 4-shot victory. Kyle Barron was fifth for Whitefish with an 82.
“Arthur Doorn is playing great golf right now,” Whitefish coach Tim Olson said. “He’s one of the best in the state, and we’re getting great consistency out of Kyle.
“Going up there and winning at Libby is a big positive.”
On the girls side, Tabish won by four shots with her 84 score.
“It’s really nice to have Erin back,” Olson said. “She might be one of the best players in Class A. She’s just coming back from a knee injury. We were patient with it, Erin was a little impatient — she was ready to play — but we held her out at the start of the season to make sure she is 100 percent going into the divisional and state tournaments.”
Katie Fyall was fourth with a 90 and Simone Craft seventh with a 97 for the Bulldogs.
“We’re getting great rounds out of Katie,” Olson said.
The teams travel to Libby for the divisional tourney this Thursday. Olson is expecting the boys to make a run for the team title, while the girls have a chance to catch top-ranked Polson.
“We have been improving every week,” Olson said. “I knew going in to the season we were young and inexperienced. A lot of kids were untested, but our work is really paying off. We’re playing our best golf of the season going into tournament week.”
Individually, Tabish and Doorn have great chances to win divisional titles, Olson said.
