Garage sale update

The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 15th annual garage sale on Friday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to noon. The Klean Kars site on U.S. 2 is no longer available, so the site will be announced later. Donated items can be dropped off on Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. Money raised will go to the Children’s Holiday Village display at Marantette Park, new banners and other community pride projects. History club

The Columbia Falls Historical Society will hold its next monthly meeting at Our Saviors’ Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. The group is currently making plans for its first annual Christmas Cowboy Dance. Anyone interested in the history of Columbia Falls and the surrounding area is welcome to attend.

Farmers market

The last Columbia Falls Farmers Market of the season will be held on the south side of Glacier Discovery Square on Thursday, Sept. 13. Stop by and enjoy the local band Trapline and shop for local produce, flowers, baked goods and crafts.

Library meeting

The Flathead County Library System Board of Trustees will hold a special study session to consider library services in the greater Columbia Falls area. The meeting will be held at the office of Jane Lopp and Associates, 295 Third Avenue EN, in Kalispell, on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. For more information, call library director Kim Crowley at 758-5826.

Canyon bike trail

The Gateway to Glacier Trail organization will hold a Wine, Cheese and Chocolate fundraising event at the Heavens Peak Lodge on U.S. 2 in West Glacier on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 2-6 p.m. Admission is $25 and includes door prizes and raffles. The group is raising money to build a bike trail along U.S. 2 from Coram to West Glacier.

Marijuana movie

The ACLU of Montana will host two free showings of the documentary film “Code of the West.” The film, which is on a national tour, documents the 2011 Montana Legislature as it debated marijuana regulation and repeal of the Medical Marijuana Initiative Montana voters passed in 2004 and follows key figures on each side of the debate. The film will be shown at Flathead County Library, in Kalispell, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. and at the Whitefish Community Library, in Whitefish, on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.

Democratic dinner

The Flathead County Democratic Party will host its annual Harvest Dinner and silent auction in the Expo Building at the county fairgrounds in Kalispell on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. The dinner will be preceded by a candidate rally at 4:30 p.m. Gubernatorial candidate Steve Bullock will be the guest speaker. Fair trade talk

The Columbia Falls Women’s Connection, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries, will hold their luncheon at the Teakettle Community Hall, 235 Nucleus Avenue, in Columbia Falls, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 11:30 a.m. Irene Zuehlsdorff, from First Choice Decor, will talk about African market baskets and other fair trade items. Catholic program

St. Richard’s Parish in Columbia Falls will offer a free program to introduce or re-introduce the Catholic faith to interested adults of all ages on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. The program will begin Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Richard Rectory, at U.S. 2 and 13th Street West. Autism walk

The Northwest Montana Chapter of the nonprofit organization Autism Society of America will host their fifth annual Autism Walk fundraiser at Lawrence Park, in Kalispell, on Saturday, Sept. 15, with registration at 11 a.m. and the one-mile fun walk starting at noon. PSA screenings

The Summit Medical Fitness Center in Kalispell will offer free prostate cancer screenings for men at the Columbia Falls Clinic on the U.S. 2 strip in Columbia Falls on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. Men who are over 50 or men who are over 45 with a family history of prostate cancer should be screened. Call 751-4500 for an appointment.

Radio club

The Flathead Valley Amateur Radio Club and the Amateur Radio Emergency Service for Flathead County have changed the date and location of their monthly meetings to the third Tuesday of every month at the Flathead County Search and Rescue headquarters, 525 Three Mile Drive, in Kalispell. Flathead ARES will meet from 6-7 p.m. and FVARC will meet from 7-9 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. The next meeting at the new location will be on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

IONS meet

The local Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) community group will host a free public talk by C. James Jensen about his new book, “Beyond the power of your subconscious mind,” at the Bohemian Grange, directly west of Montana Coffee Traders on U.S. 93, on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. Jensen currently provides executive coaching, consulting and advisory services and serves on the IONS board of directors.
