BHS Runners get a vibe for the season

Bigfork High School’s cross country team got a preview for what their season will be like at the meet in Cut Bank on Aug. 31. Due to the holiday weekend, only six boys, three girls, and two middle school students ran at the meet, but coach Sue Loeffler said each runner did well.

“Some were a little timid and probably need to be more aggressive,” Loeffler said. “But, they ran real well and will keep working hard, for being their first race the did well on figuring it out.”

The meet last week essentially functioned as a scrimmage. Since BHS didn’t have a full team it’s difficult to determine how the team will do at upcoming meets. However, Chance Kittle improved his time by a full minute from last season and Loeffler said Ellessa Henion, Sara Abbott and Emily Pataky each ran well considering it was their first high school race.

“Most of the kids should have ran JV, but they didn’t have JV,” Loeffler said. “Logan Morley ran well for his first race, he was going against varsity and he is only a freshman and he got tenth.”

Logan wasn’t the only Morley to do well at the meet, his younger sister, Bryn, won the middle school division and Anna Pataky took eighth. Bryn and Logan’s sister, Makena, was unable to participate due to a minor hip injury.

Loeffler said the team will work on keeping focused and running hard at practice this week in preparation for the first actual cross country meet of the season in Kalispell on Sept. 8 at 10 a.m.
