Park bats

Montana House and the Glacier National Park Fund will co-host a free and public presentation by Glacier National Park wildlife biologist Lisa Bate on “What’s So Important About Bats?” at Montana House, in Apgar Village, on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. Bate will discuss current findings of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park Bat Inventory and Monitoring Project that started in 2011. Outdoor films

Outside Media, a public relations company in Columbia Falls, and Bluebird Guides, a Whitefish-based backcountry ski touring company, will present the fourth annual Whitefish Mountain Films as a fundraiser for the Whitefish Trail. It will begin with Matchstick Productions’ “Superheroes of Stoke” at the Bierstube, in Big Mountain Village, on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 at The White Room in Whitefish. That will be followed by a full evening of outdoor adventure edits featuring climbing, skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking, kayaking and fly fishing at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. A $5 donation will be requested. Raffle tickets are $1 apiece. Food and beverages will be available for purchase before the films and during intermission.

Birding trip

Flathead Audubon will host a birding trip across the Flathead Valley in search of migratory waterfowl, raptors and other large or small birds, led by Leslie Kehoe. Meet at the Fish, Wildlife and Parks offices in Kalispell on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 9 a.m. For more information, call 837-4467 after 5 p.m. Birders who went to Bad Rock Canyon this fall reported seeing 51 golden eagles, five migrating bald eagles, one falcon, one rough-legged hawk, red-tailed hawks and 29 various accipiters.

Slide show

Wildlife photographer Tom Ulrich will present a slide show about his many trips to South America’s Pantanal area during Flathead Audubon’s general meeting on Monday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at their new location in the Gateway Community Center, in Kalispell.

Logo contest

Glacier National Park Conservancy, formed from the recent merger of the former Glacier Natural History Association and the Glacier National Park Fund, invites adults and children or art classes to enter a design contest and come up with a logo for the new nonprofit. The winner will receive an America The Beautiful annual park pass, a copy of “The First 100 Years: The Story of Glacier National Park,” by Carol Guthrie, a Glacier National Park Conservancy blanket and a Billy Bowman stuffed mountain goat, Glacier National Park Fund’s current mascot. Wilderness fundraiser

The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation will hold its annual Voices of the Wilderness fundraiser event at the Alpine Ballroom, 333 Main Street, in Kalispell, on Friday, Nov. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. Guest speaker Doug Chadwick will talk about “Grizzly Bears of the Gobi Desert.” There will be a silent art auction. Raffle tickets for a five night, guided horse packing trip in the wilderness donated by Swan Mountain Outfitters are $10 apiece. Proceeds will go to supporting Foundation trail projects. Patagonia recently pledged to support the Foundation’s trail maintenance work by sponsoring one trail project each year for the next five years.
