The Kalispell Lakers Baseball organization announced the long-term signing of their current team manager and head coach Ryan Malmin last week. Malmin has been with the Lakers since 2006 with an overall career record of 489-263.

Through his tenure in Kalispell, the Lakers have had six top four finishes in the Western AA conference, seven tournament championships, and a third place finish in the 2010 Montana State Baseball Tournament.

Coach Malmin played American Legion baseball in Whitefish from 1988-90. Then from 1997-2005 Malmin was the Glasgow Reds Manager where he guided the Reds to a 258-109 record and seven state tournament appearances including a state runner-up finish in 2000. Coach Malmin will be in his 8th year as the Lakers Head Coach.

He is a high school English teacher at Flathead High School where he also coaches varsity football.

“With the recent changes in the American Legion Montana State AA program to only nine teams it will be important to keep a strong program and Coach Malmin is key for our success,” Marc Liechti, Kalispell Lakers Board President, said. “With the Glacier Twins and Butte dropping the AA teams for 2013, the Lakers AA will be required to play 32 conference games between all of the eight opponents mostly from the east side of the Rocky Mountains.”
