The Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will bring a heartwarming saga of love, broken hearts, and healing to its stage this winter as it presents “Almost, Maine.”

Written by John Cariani, “Almost, Maine” tells the story of nine different couples as they fall in love, fall out of love, or discover a special something that had always been there. The stories take place as the northern lights fill the sky on a cold winter night in the small rural town of Almost, Maine.

Cariani’s realistic writing style appealed to director Rich Haptonstall.

“He writes about both sides of love — the soft, happy, and pleasurable side as well as the sad, hurtful and painful side,” Haptonstall said.

The show provides opportunity for 20 FVCC students, comprised of returning theatre students as well as some new faces, to be on stage in one night. Working with the show’s large cast has been the highlight for Haptonstall.

“Every night I get to work with different groups of people, and each group brings a fresh outlook and something new to the stage,” he said.

Performances of “Almost, Maine” will take place Dec. 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 7 p.m. in the FVCC Theatre inside the Arts and Technology Building on the FVCC campus.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens. Admission is free for FVCC students. Advance tickets can be purchased at the FVCC Bookstore in Blake Hall or by calling 756-3814, at Campus Grounds inside the Arts and Technology Building, or online at www.fvcc.edu/fvcctheatre.html. Remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door prior to show times.
