Volunteers needed for Ronan Community Thanksgiving

Volunteers and donated supplies are needed for the ninth annual Ronan Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Ronan Community Center on Nov. 22.

Since the event began it has grown into a massive Thanksgiving celebration where hundreds of community members gather to enjoy food, drinks, music, and each other’s company. And, everything is free of charge to all who want to join in the fun.

Local cook Marie Cowan, formally of the Ronan Café, kicked off the tradition nine years ago, recruiting volunteers, foods and participants.

When the event grew too large for the café, it was moved to the Ronan Community Center and is now sponsored by the Ronan Area Chamber of Commerce.

Supplies and “all the fixings” come from donors throughout the area. The Lake County Commissioners provide the facility at no charge.

In order for the tradition to continue, volunteers are needed to help serve and cook the food, clear tables and help with clean-up afterwards.

Of course, no Thanksgiving is complete without the food and donated turkeys, pies, rolls, paper plates and plastic silverware. But, donations are still needed to make it happen.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the Ronan Community Center.
