Wants a commissioner who recycles

Why do we live here in the Flathead Valley? Because we’re smart, smart, smart. But you’re blind, blind, blind. We have huge issues with what’s going on with the county landfill.

The Flathead County landfill board only sees one option — get bigger and bigger. But there is a better way, thinking outside the box. The landfill board says the people in the valley don’t want to recycle, so it needs to build the landfill bigger.

If we recycle at the landfill, about half of the garbage in each bag or container that shows up would be eliminated. The rest of the garbage could be trucked out of our beautiful valley. The result would be a smaller landfill.

According to discussion at a recent landfill board meeting, the cost of landfill liners is $2 million per quarter acre. That means $720 million for the 90 acres the landfill board wants to buy — just for liners. If they buy 500 acres and use 400 acres for the landfill, that works out to $3.2 billion at today’s costs, not tomorrow’s.

If you’re going to vote for a county commissioner, call him or her and ask, “Are you going to make the landfill bigger or smaller?” Please vote for the county commissioner that recycles and wants the landfill to be smaller.

If you’re running for county commissioner and want lots of votes, call me, Bobby Donk, at 261-2196 and I’ll get you hundreds of votes if you want.
