Crowder responds to Adams

From a recent letter to the editor it appears that Doug Adams, county commissioner candidate for District 1, is running on the platform, “Russ Crowder is picking on me.”

He is upset that his name wasn’t sent to the county commission by the local Republican central committee to be considered for temporary appointment to fill the seat vacated by the passing of Jim Dupont.

Mr. Adams is correct that I was one of many committee member s that voted against sending his name to the commission.

While I can’t speak for the other members, as someone that actively worked to help Jim get elected to the county commission, and that appreciated his deep commitment to solving the Whitefish “doughnut” mess, I personally thought it would have been an insult to Jim’s memory to send Mr. Adams’ name to the commission.

You see, Mr. Adams failed to mention was that he was one of the Whitefish City Councilmen that voted to adopt the original “Doughnut” agreement that disenfranchised and abandoned the extra-territorial jurisdiction …” You may read that: “Without giving up control of the private property outside Whitefish city limits”. Once again, that is not a “Republican” definition of “Representation”, and it certainly wasn’t Jim’s.

Thank you for the opportunity to clarify this and also for the opportunity to thank the majority of the members of the Flathead County Republican Party Central Committee, and of course, Flathead County commissioners Dale Lauman and Pam Holquist for their wise choice Cal Scott to serve as our interim county commissioner until the November elections.

I think Jim Dupont would be proud.
