Whitefish School District voters Tuesday approved a high school district levy request.

The final tally had 59.29 percent favoring the levy and 40.71 percent voting against, according to the school district.

In the trustee election, incumbent Pat Jarvi retains her seat on the board with 891 votes. Newcomer Shawn Tucker took the second of the two positions with 642 votes. Shannon Hanson earned 623 votes losing his bid for re-election.

The $45,000 general-fund levy will be used for operational expenses in the high school district. The passage of the levy will help ease an expected shortfall in next year’s budget. The levy will not result in an increase for taxpayers who live in both the elementary and high school districts.

There was 13.6 percent voter turnout with 1,323 ballots cast.
