The Many Glacier and Two Medicine roads in Glacier National Park opened last week. Meanwhile, Park plows continue their progress toward Logan Pass on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Plows on the west side of the Continental Divide reached Haystack Creek, but plowing stopped Friday because the Sun Road briefly flooded about six miles from the West Entrance after a culvert plugged. The road was closed until the culvert was fixed.

On the east side, Park plow crews reached the Jackson Glacier Overlook.

The hiker-biker closure on the west side has been extended to Packer’s Roost when plows are working. There are no restrictions on the east side when plows aren’t working.

The Inside North Fork Road is closed except for a six-mile section north of Big Prairie. The Bowman Lake Road is closed. High water also closed the Quarter Circle Bridge Road, but it has since reopened.

Glacier Park campgrounds have begun to open for the season. Apgar opens on May 4, Sprague Creek opens May 11, and Rising Sun, Bowman Lake, Two Medicine and Many Glacier are scheduled to open May 25.

Low elevation trails are largely free of snow, but visitors should expect numerous downed trees and standing water on some trails. Trails that run through previously burned areas are particularly strewn with downed trees.

West Glacier saw 1.1 inches of rain over the past week, and rainy weather is expected this week. St. Mary recorded a half-inch of rain over the week.
