James Dupont

James “Jim” Dupont, 65, passed away suddenly at his home in West Glacier on March 19, 2012.

Jim was the youngest child of Norman and Mary Dupont and was born on Nov. 6, 1946, in Springfield, Mass.

He was a longtime resident and friend of the Flathead Valley. He worked as a law enforcement officer and Flathead County’s longest-serving, four-term sheriff. At the time of his death, Jim was serving as Flathead County Commissioner. He also served in the Navy.

Jim married Su Roth and they shared 24 wonderful years together enjoying their family, friends and all Montana has to offer. Jim will be fondly remembered and greatly missed for his fairness, quick wit and wicked sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Justin Roth.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Su Dupont; brother Tony Dupont and wife Barbara; sister Mary Laplante and husband Adrian; daughter Jessica Dupont and husband Kevin; son Chad Roth and wife Brandi; grandchildren Harlie, Kenlie, Brynn, Jackson and Teagan; nephews and nieces Tony Dupont Jr., and wife Donnetta and their children Summer and Macayla, Aaron Dupont and wife Christian and their children Tia and Jorga, Becky Friesen and husband Jerry and their children Micah and Nicolas, Matthew Laplante and wife Kristy and their children Zachary and Dylan, Michael Laplante and wife Sharon, Christine Whalen and husband John, Marybeth Trumbo and husband Tom and their children Russell, Jessica and David, Lynn Miller and husband Wayne and their children Andrea, Nathan and Eric; and sisters-in-law Bekki Kremer and husband Tom and their children Jennifer and Matthew, and Debbie Pittman and husband Ron and their children Heidi, Christopher and Brett.

A memorial service was held at the Christian Center, in Kalispell, on March 24, 2012.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Humane Society or the Flathead County Animal Shelter.
