Meredith Coopman and Barb Miller joined the Lakeside Community Council as the only two candidates to file for the council’s two vacant seats by Feb. 23.

If there had been additional candidates, the election would have been in May, along with the Somers School Board election.

Coopman works in sales for the Flathead Beacon and owns Edifish Design. Miller is the current secretary for LCC. New officers are elected each June, so Miller could possibly be secretary for LCC again.

Miller and Coopman will begin their three-year terms on June 1.

“I had been on it for three years and enjoyed participating with the council and helping the community and wanted to keep doing it,” Miller said. “I would like to be around when the plan is approved so I can help implement it.”

Coopman moved to Lakeside six years ago.

Coopman has a Masters degree in architecture and studied urban planning and interior design at the New School of Architecture and Design in San Diego.

“I decided to run because I love living in Lakeside and it’s growing,” Coopman said. “I just want to make sure it’s done right and I want to be part of that process.”

Lakeside residents interested in serving on the LCC may still apply for the county commissioner appointed seat. This seat is currently held by Mike Wilson and expires at the end of May.

Applicants for this position must send a resume and letter of interest stating why they are interested in serving on the LCC. Applications can be mailed to the Lakeside Community Council, P.O. Box 157, Lakeside, MT 59922 or emailed to LakesideCommunityCouncil@bresnan.net.

The existing LCC will review the resumes and letters of interest during their May 29 meeting and finalize their candidate list to send to the county commissioners. From that list, the county commissioners will appoint a new person to the LCC.

If nobody applies for this position, the commissioners will decide on someone themselves.

The LCC meets on the last Tuesday of each month to consider county and community business such as the Lakeside Plan. The council also represents Lakeside for county-wide matters.
