Twins win big and lose big

The Glacier Twins’ rollercoaster season continued last week as the Legion AA club picked up an impressive 10-9 over the Missoula Mavericks and then dropped a conference game to the Kalispell Lakers in a blowout loss.

Against Missoula at Memorial Park, Peter Seymour tallied two hits and four RBIs to lead the Twins as they tallied 10 runs in five innings. Connor Donahue pitched three innings, struck out two and allowed three runs.

The Twins opened a 5-1 lead after two innings. Seymour hit an RBI to left in the second frame to score Isaac Venezio and Carl Talsma. The Mavs came back to take a 9-6 lead into the fifth before the Twins regained their edge.

Shane Marcial walked and Corey Davis singled to get the offense going in the fifth. Jeremy Nielsen then hit a fielder’s choice grounder to third to bring home Marcial and make it 9-7.

Talsma then singled to left to score Davis and Venezio for a 9-9 tie. Logan Harwood then walked to load the bases again, and Seymour walked to score the winning run.

In a rival game against Kalispell on May 30, the Twins tallied two runs in the bottom of the first, but it was all Lakers for the next four innings.

Kalispell scored seven in the second inning and added six more in a big seventh inning for the 15-2 conference win.

Davis pitched four innings and allowed eight runs. Venezio pitched three innings, struck out two batters and allowed seven runs.

After 24 games, Garrett Houston is leading the team with 10 RBIs. Davis is hitting .305 through 59 at-bats. Bryce Wehrli is batting .500 with 20 at-bats, and Talsma is batting .355 with 31 at-bats.

The Twins will host Mission Valley today, June 6, at Memorial Park in Whitefish at 6 p.m. The next conference game is at Lethbridge on June 12.
