Class reunion

Discovery Square
The Flathead County Library System Board of Trustees will hold a special study session to consider the acquisition of Glacier Discovery Square in Columbia Falls for the Columbia Falls Branch Library. The meeting will be held in the Columbia Falls City Hall, 130 Sixth Street West, on Wednesday, July 18, at 4 p.m. Presentations will be made by the Flathead County Library Foundation, the First Best Place Task Force and representatives from other organizations. Big Band sound
The Don Lawrence Orchestra will perform Big Band sounds of yesteryear and today at the Columbia Falls Lions Club Summer Concert Series on Thursday, July 19. The one-hour concerts are held weekly at the Don Lawrence Amphitheater in Marantette Park, in Columbia Falls, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Donations of $3 per person or $5 per family are requested. The audience is encouraged to bring chairs or blankets.
Farmers market
Cindy Shaw, manager for the Columbia Falls Farmers Market, wants everyone to know that while the Glacier Discovery Square building is currently closed for remodeling, the markets continue to be held every Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Weed pull
The North Fork Landowners Association will hold its third annual Robin Cox Memorial Weed Roundup at the Community Hall, 8 miles north of Polebridge on the North Fork Road, on Tuesday, July 24, starting at 10 a.m. Tris Hoffman, a Forest Service weed coordinator, and Dawn LaFleur, a Glacier National Park weed expert, will identify weeds and give advice to landowners on how to deal with infestations, and Steve Robinson, a Flathead County education compliance officer, will explain the new Montana Weed Law and how it impacts landowners. Free burgers will be provided. Bring a dessert or a dish to pass.
Board opening
The recent resignation of a member of the Flathead County Board of Adjustment has left a seat open through Dec. 31 this year. County fair
Northwest Montana Fair superintendants and staff will hold their first annual Exhibitor Open House in the Expo building at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, July 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. The deadlline for children entering the Mutton Bustin’ competition is 5 p.m. July 26. The event will take place at the opening of all three nights of the PRCA Rodeo. No child will walk away empty-handed. To be eligible, children must be ages 5-7, weigh less than 55 pounds, and submit a completed parental consent form.
Wildfire site
The Montana State University Extension has posted a new Web site with wildfire and drought information for both homeowners and large-acreage landowners at www.msuextension.org/wildfire. The site includes a live Twitter feed (#MTfire), with up-to-date information on fire activity around the state from Montana Disaster and Emergency Services and news outlets, and useful articles on both short- and long-term preparations for dealing with wildfire, including firescaping and evacuating your pets, livestock and home. Garden tours
The Flathead Valley Community College Foundation will host summer tours of the Bibler Home and Gardens in Kalispell on July 23-27. Proceeds will benefit the student scholarship program at FVCC. One and a half hour tours of the gardens and the home’s exquisite collection of antiques, sculptures and heirloom Persian carpets will take place at 5:30 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 adults and $3 children purchased in advance. Car show
The fourth annual Glacier Rally in the Rockies parade and car and motorcycle show and shine will be held in downtown Kalispell on Saturday, July 21, with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. Classic vehicles 1975 and older, and motorcycles of all years, will park on First Avenue West. There will be drawings, a walking poker run and other special activities for participants. Car and motorcycle registration costs $40 per vehicle.
