A free mobile application focused on Whitefish tourism and businesses is now available for Apple iPhones.

The app is an interactive travel guide to the town and surrounding area. The Android version was released in August 2011.

“More and more, tourists want local expert information available on their smart phones to make choices about their vacation easier in real time,” said Jan Metzmaker, director of the Whitefish Convention and Visitor Bureau.

The app was developed by Old Town Creative, a Whitefish-based interactive services company that specializes in providing interactive solutions to travel and tourism destinations.

Using the smart phone’s cellular and GPS signals, the Whitefish mobile application lets local travelers find detailed information about places to eat, stay, and recreate in and around Whitefish. More than 130 WCVB member businesses update and maintain the content in real time by adding photos, special offers, packages, event details and other information to encourage visitors nearby to visit.

There is also a map view that pinpoints where travelers are in Whitefish in relationship to the kinds of places they are looking for.

For users to download the app, search for “Whitefish” in the iTunes app store or go to www.ExploreWhitefish.com and click on the app link.

In addition to the launch of the iPhone application, production of the 2012-2013 Whitefish Travel Guide is underway. The magazine-style piece is distributed at downtown information kiosks, the Chamber of Commerce, airport display rack, the Amtrak Depot and area businesses, as well as at consumer ski shows. Potential visitors receive a copy when they call the toll-free number listed on all WCVB advertising and promotions.
