Open burning

The spring-summer open-burning season in Flathead Valley ended June 30. Open burning is prohibited in July, August and September. Recreational fires less than four feet in diameter are allowed unless special fire restrictions are issued.

School reunion

The Canyon View Grade School Multi School Reunion Picnic will be held at Bohemian Grange on U.S. 93, behind Coffee Traders, on Saturday, July 14, beginning with set up at 11 and dining at 1 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a hot or cold dish, silverware, plates and something to drink. Coffee and tea will be furnished. Teachers and students who attended Canyon View, Valentine, Halfmoon, Lasalle, Birch Grove, Deer Park, Lake Blaine, Bissell and Helena Flats schools through 1970 are encouraged to attend, along with spouses, friends, grandchildren and other relatives. Fiddle music

The Maw Brothers, a local Flathead group, will play at the Columbia Falls Lions Club Summer Concert Series on Thursday, July 5. The one-hour concerts are held weekly at the Don Lawrence Amphitheater in Marantette Park, in Columbia Falls, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Donations of $3 per person or $5 per family are requested.

Women’s Connection

The Columbia Falls and Kalispell Women’s Connection groups, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries, will team up for a luncheon at the Teakettle Community Hall, 235 Nucleus Avenue, in Columbia Falls on Tuesday, July 10, at 11:30 a.m. Lilly Knauls will be the speaker. She is a Dove Music recipient, former member of the Edwin Hawkins singers and has made TV appearances and performed in concerts around the world. Cost $8 per person. Classical pops

The Glacier Symphony and Chorale will present its Classical Summer Pops concert at Rebecca Farms, 1010 West Springcreek Road, north of Kalispell, on Saturday, July 7, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. . Historical photos needed

The Columbia Falls Historical Society is compiling photos for its 2013 calendar. Anyone with historical photos they would like to donate to the group are asked to bring them to the society’s meeting at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in Columbia Falls, on Wednesday, July 11, at 7 p.m. or call Dorothy Downen at 892-5894 or Shirley Reynolds at 892-0178.

Judge training

Columbia Falls City Court Judge Tina Gordon recently completed the 33rd annual National Judges School, in Tulsa, Okla. Topics included judicial ethics, juvenile concerns, judicial integrity, exclusionary rule, alternative sentencing and DUI evidence. Gordon is the director and state representative for the school in Montana. She has been the judge in Columbia Falls for 24 years.
