Hoops schedule
Upcoming basketball games at Columbia Falls High School with Stillwater Christian School have been moved from Monday, Jan. 30, to Monday, Feb. 13. The order of games will be the same, with the freshmen boys at 4 p.m., freshmen girls at 5:30 p.m. and JV girls at 7 p.m. In addition, the games at Ronan on Friday, Feb. 10, have been changed. The boys will play at 6 p.m. and the girls will play at 7:30 p.m.
Free throws
There will be a free throw hoops shoot for boys and girls ages 10 to 14 at the Columbia Falls Junior High on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 11 to noon. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and is free to all youths.
‘Mermaid' at West Glacier
The West Glacier School will perform the Missoula Children's Theater production of "The Little Mermaid" at the school on Friday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. To pay for the production, a raffle will be held for a Missoula Weekend Getaway for two, including a night's lodging, Montana Grizzly basketball tickets, dining and a gas card. Raffle tickets are $10 each or $25 for three. The drawing will be the night of the performance. A silent auction will also be held. Show tickets are $5 per person and $15 per family.
Free meals
The nondenominational Columbia Falls Community Kitchen has been in operation for 18 years feeding the needy in the community on the last four days of each month. This month, free meals will be offered in the basement of St. Richard's Catholic Church at 6 p.m. from Saturday, Jan. 28, through Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Artist on TV
Artist Arvid Kristoffersen will be featured on the PBS television program Northwest Profiles on KSPS on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. Kristoffersen is a well-known Norwegian artist and has been featured in several museums and businesses, including refurbishing all the hand-painting on the walls and ceilings at the Conrad Mansion.
Seeking Mrs. Columbia Falls
The Mrs. Montana Pageant is looking for applicants for the title of Mrs. Columbia Falls. Once selected, the contestant will advance to represent her community in the Mrs. Montana Pageant, to be held at the Petro Theater in Billings on April 7. Local titleholders will compete for a prize package valued at more than $8,000, including an all-expenses paid trip to the national Mrs. America Pageant. auditions
The Columbia Mountain Theatre Company, a newly established non-profit community theater group, will hold auditions for its first production at Glacier Discover Square on Thursday, Jan. 26, and Friday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. Auditions are open to adults with or without acting experience. The season will open with two one-act plays: "Sham: A Social Satire," by Frank G. Tompkins, and "Wurzel-Flummery," a political satire by A. A. Milne. Performances will be at Glacier Discover Square Center on March 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 available at the door. Metals class
Rod Cogliati will teach a 10-week long adult class, "Introduction to Metal Working," on Friday evenings from Feb. 3 through March 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Students will learn the basics of metal working and safety, including gas brazing, welding and cutting, electric arc welding and some metal lathe work. Master gardener
Montana State University's eight-week long master gardener program in Flathead County will take place Feb. 15-16. Patricia McGlynn, the MSU Flathead County agriculture extension agent, will teach the classes. Participants can choose between classes on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Earl Bennett Building, in Kalispell, or Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Columbia Falls. Cost is $185, which includes the newly revised master gardener handbook and other course materials. Fifty dollars will be refunded at the completion of the 20-hour community service project. Senior fundraisers
A fundraiser will be held at the North Valley Senior Center on Friday, Feb. 10, from 4-7 p.m. with lasagna, salad, garlic rolls and dessert for $6. A book and puzzle sale will take place Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
