MatCats crush Bulldogs
The Columbia Falls wrestling team hammered Whitefish in a Jan. 5 dual and then took sixth at the Western Montana Duals tournament in Ronan on Jan. 6-7.
The Wildcats were led by wrestlers Shonn Roberts, Kohl Thompson and Jacob Babcock, who went undefeated for the week. Junior varsity wrestlers Brendan Moseman and Chase Ramberg also went undefeated, coach Jessie Schaeffer said.
"The kids wrestled well after a long Christmas break," Schaeffer said. "There were some big improvements by quite a few young men."
The boys had a dominant performance against Whitefish, winning nearly every match by a pin. MatCat Travis Province won the match of the evening. Down 7-1 with 28 seconds left, the 152-pound Province turned the tide on Bulldog Kyle Bowerman for the pin and the win.
"He doesn't quit wrestling," Schaeffer said of Province. "He continues to stay in your face."
Josiah Osborne also had a last-second takedown against Polson that proved to be the difference in a dual against the Pirates, Schaeffer said.
The team has another full plate of wrestling this week. They travel to Polson for a dual Thursday and then compete in the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula over the weekend.
